The role and function of automobile sensor

Damage to the oxygen sensor will have many impacts on the vehicle, including the following: First, the power performance will be affected. When the oxygen sensor fails, the engine cannot accurately control the air-fuel ratio, which will cause the combustion process to become insufficient, thereby significantly reducing the vehicle's power output. Secondly, the fuel consumption rate will increase. Due to insufficient combustion, the engine needs to consume more fuel to maintain its normal operation, which directly leads to an increase in fuel consumption. Furthermore, emissions issues will also be highlighted. Damage to the oxygen sensor may interfere with the normal operation of the emission system, causing vehicle emissions to exceed standards and causing adverse effects on the environment. In addition, you need to understand that the oxygen sensor is divided into a front oxygen sensor and a rear oxygen sensor, each of which has different responsibilities. The main task of the front oxygen sensor is to detect the oxygen content in the exhaust gas after combustion, thereby assisting the engine computer to accurately control the fuel injection amount to achieve the purpose of adjusting fuel consumption, power output and engine operating status. If the front oxygen sensor is damaged, the engine computer will not be able to accurately control the amount of fuel injection, which may cause a series of problems such as excessive fuel consumption, reduced power, increased noise, and the lighting of the fault indicator light. The rear oxygen sensor is installed after the three-way catalytic converter, and its function is to detect the exhaust gas components after being processed by the three-way catalytic converter. The engine computer evaluates the working efficiency of the three-way catalytic converter by comparing and analyzing the data provided by the front and rear oxygen sensors. If the rear oxygen sensor fails, it may interfere with the normal operation of the emission system, thereby adversely affecting the vehicle's overall performance and environmental performance.
